Our Year Through the OT (A Note From Steve)

Wednesday, December 27, 2006

I'm very excited to spend a year in the Old Testament together. It's a story/history that many of us are unfamiliar with, yet crucial to the way we understand the New Testament, and even more importantly, crucial to understanding who this "God" is.
...
There are two sort of "areas" where I believe spending the year in the OT will be hugely impacting:
...
1.) Individually:
Perhaps you've recently decided to spend daily time with God or it is something you are considering. If so, I encourage you to think about joining in on reading through the Old Testament with us this year. Let the weekly readings and devotionals be the way in which you spend daily time with God.
...
2.) Corporately (all together):
There is nothing like a shared experience. Think back to a funny moment you've shared with someone, or maybe a time where you went through something hard (like with your family). When we have shared experiences, they not only draw us together, but they define our relationships. They become part of who we "are" together. Imagine if a group of God's people, like our church, decided to spend a year intently focused on the Scriptures together, and put into practice what God says to them... All the while sharing this experience with one another through small groups, Sunday morning services, blogs and just plain life. Imagine what could happen... Lives would change.
...
So, here's a little challenge... Try it for a month (the key is, you have to actually do it for the full month). And if it's not working for you, don't do it. But if you do stick with it for the month, I have a feeling that you'll gain a whole lot out of it, and want to keep going.
...
So what do you think? Do you want to join us on a life-changing year long journey with God through the Old Testament?
